This placement is built around practical, visible environmental work on and around Lake Victoria — shoreline and beach clean-ups, tree planting in community plots, and awareness campaigns run with local schools and community groups on waste, water quality and conservation. It suits volunteers on shorter stays well, and mixes easily with another placement if you're volunteering for longer. Many volunteers pair it with a weekend trip to Saanane Island National Park — Tanzania's only island national park, a short boat ride from Mwanza on Lake Victoria.

No. This placement welcomes volunteers of any background — a genuine interest in the environment and a willingness to do hands-on outdoor work is all you need. Environmental science, geography and conservation students are especially well suited.
Closed shoes, clothes you don't mind getting dirty, sun protection and a reusable water bottle. We'll brief you on the day's activity and any specific gear needed before you head out.
