This placement is awareness and education-focused fieldwork rather than direct animal handling. You'll work alongside local conservation partners around Mwanza on habitat and wildlife awareness campaigns with schools and community groups — helping build understanding of conservation issues around Lake Victoria and the wider Mwanza region. It suits volunteers interested in conservation, biology or environmental science, and runs flexibly from two to twelve weeks. Many volunteers choose to pair their placement with a weekend safari to Serengeti National Park or Ngorongoro Crater — both real, well-known Tanzania national parks reachable from Mwanza. Serengeti, recognized as one of the "Seven New Wonders of the World" and just a two-hour drive from Mwanza, is renowned for the Big Four (lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo) and the great wildebeest and zebra migration. Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive volcanic caldera and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to the highest density of wildlife in Africa, including the rare black rhino.
