Located in Nyegezi, Mwanza (less than 5 km from VOT Hostel). TECEC empowers parents, caregivers, and preschool teachers with vital resources to enhance children's health and learning, tackling developmental delays in low-income families.

Tanzania's education system follows a 7-4-2 model: 2 years of pre-primary, 7 years of free primary education, 4 years of secondary, and advanced secondary for ages 18+. While the system has improved, challenges remain. As a volunteer, no formal teaching experience is required—your enthusiasm, fresh perspective, and English conversation practice are already incredibly valuable to students and local teachers.
The Context
Overcrowded classrooms and a lack of basic learning materials make effective teaching difficult, hindering the overall quality of education.
Gender inequality and the stark differences between urban and rural areas limit educational opportunities for many vulnerable students.
Financial hardships, the need to work, and early marriage unfortunately force many students to leave school before completing their education.
Your Impact
Provide workshops on effective teaching methods, help source educational materials, and assist in setting up classroom libraries.
Assist in rural schools that lack resources and help raise community awareness about the vital importance of education.
Collaborate with local groups to support girls’ education, teach practical life skills, and provide lessons on hygiene and environmental issues.
Help improve school facilities, run after-school support programs, and teach basic computer skills to prepare students for a digital world.
Good to Know
Most programs welcome volunteers regardless of experience level. We match you with a placement that fits your skills.
Volunteers placed in our Education and Community programs work with children, so every volunteer is briefed on our child protection code of conduct before starting. This covers safe, appropriate interaction with children at all times, a strict no-photography-without-consent rule, and a direct line to our local staff to report any concern. Our permanent local team is present at every placement site throughout your stay.
We accept volunteers for as little as 1 week up to 6 months or more. The minimum recommended stay for meaningful impact on this program is 2–4 weeks.
