Tourism & Hospitality Internship
About this program
Work inside small hotels, guesthouses and tour desks in Mwanza and learn how tourism really works on the ground in Tanzania.
Day to day, you'll greet and check in guests, help at reception, support restaurant and housekeeping teams, and assist tour operators with planning itineraries, answering enquiries and preparing guests for trips. You can also help local businesses grow by improving customer service, sharing English-language skills with staff, and supporting their marketing, from listings and brochures to social media and booking pages.
The program suits students and graduates in tourism, hospitality, business or marketing, and anyone curious about the travel industry. Because Mwanza is the gateway to Lake Victoria and Serengeti National Park, you'll see the industry from both sides: working with travellers during the week, and joining VOT-organized day trips and safaris yourself at weekends.
Good to Know
Requirements & what's included
Do I need previous experience?
Most programs welcome volunteers regardless of experience level. For healthcare placements, some medical background is preferred. We match you with a placement that fits your skills.
What are the daily working hours?
Most placements run Monday to Friday, mornings into early afternoon. Healthcare placements can offer longer or shift-based hours if you want more hands-on time. We confirm your exact schedule with the placement before you arrive.
Can I combine this internship with tours or a safari?
Absolutely — many volunteers add on a safari, a Zanzibar beach trip, or local Mwanza activities before or after their placement. Let us know your interest and our team can help you plan it.
